KUCHING: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Haji Johari Tun Openg tabled Sarawak’s biggest state budget so far amounting to RM15.8 billion for 2025 at the Dewan Undangan Negeri yesterday.
Datuk Patinggi Abang Haji Johari said the budget, the largest in the state's history, would continue to provide allocations to key sectors to accelerate economic development and eventually make the state economy prosperous, robust and resilient.
This would also be a surplus budget as in previous years and represented a 16 per cent increase from the RM13.6 billion allocated for 2024, the Premier said.
He told the Dewan that the 2025 budget would continue to be an expansionary budget to boost government spending in order to stimulate Sarawak’s economic growth in line with the budget’s team of “Together Building A Prosperous Future”.
"Through this expansionary budget, we are making substantial investments in infrastructure while placing the well-being of the rakyat at the forefront of our priorities," he pointed out.
He said the state anticipated a revenue of RM14.2 billion against a total ordinary expenditure of RM13.7 billion of which RM8.8 billion would be appropriated to the State Development Fund (SDF).
This would top up the sum of RM2.1 billion brought forward balance in the SDF thus totalling RM10.9 billion to fund development expenditures.
"I am pleased to inform this august House that with the projected revenue of RM14.2 billion and total ordinary expenditure of RM13.7 billion, the 2025 state budget is expected to generate a surplus of RM486 million," he said.
